 Chiayi County is located west of Yushan, east of the Taiwan Strait, north of Tainan County, and south of Yunlin County. The administration of Chiayi is divided into two cities, two urban townships, and fourteen rural townships. They are Pozi City, Taibao City, Dalin Township, Budai Township, Zhongpu Township, Zhuqi Township, Meishan Township, Yizhu Township, Minxiong Township, Dongshi Township, Lucao Township, Liujiao Township, Fanlu Township, Shuishang Township, Alishan Township, Dapu Township, Xingang Township, and Xikou Township.

 Located in the central west part of Chiayi, Taibao City is the Chiayi County Government, the site of the National Palace Museum South Branch, and the Chiayi Station of the HSR is located. It connects with Chiayi City and Shuishan Township in the east, Lucao Township in the south, Pozi City and Liujiao Township in the west, and neighbors Xingang and Minxiong in the north with the Pozi River as the border. The measurement area is 66.8964 km2. It has 18 villages, and the total population is approximately 36,614 (statistics updated on March 31st 2011).
